Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains how Magmug collects, uses, stores, shares, and deletes information when you use the Magmug mobile application, website, and related services. Magmug is intended only for adults aged 18 and over.

Information We Collect
We collect account and sign-in information, including identifiers received from Google or Apple sign-in, and the email and profile details you provide.
We also process profile data and content you add (name, username, birth year, gender, biography, photos, and voice messages), the messages you send and receive, approximate location (country and region from your profile and inferred from your IP address — we do not collect precise GPS location), device and connection information (device model, operating system, app version, device identifier or fingerprint, push notification token, and IP address), purchase and subscription status, and support requests or abuse reports.

How We Use Information
We use personal data to create and maintain your account, provide matching and messaging, generate automated character replies, process purchases and our in-app currency (Gems), send notifications you enable, keep the service safe (moderation, fraud prevention, and device bans), respond to support, comply with legal obligations, and improve the service.

Automated Features and Message Processing
Magmug includes interactive characters whose replies may be generated automatically. To generate these replies, the content of your messages with such a character (and relevant context) is processed by a Google service. Some replies are generated automatically and may not come from a real person. We also store summaries of these conversations so they stay consistent, and we use automated checks to help detect harmful content. Please avoid sharing sensitive personal information in chats.

When Information Is Shared
We do not sell your personal data. We share information with service providers only to operate the app: Google (chat features, Firebase Cloud Messaging for push notifications, Google Sign-In, and AdMob for advertising), Apple (Sign in with Apple and App Store billing), and Google Play (Android billing). Our servers are hosted in the European Union (Germany). In limited situations, we may also need to share certain information to comply with legal obligations or to help keep our users and the service safe.

Advertising
Magmug may show ads through Google AdMob, which may use device and advertising identifiers to deliver and measure ads. You can limit ad personalization in your device settings, and a Premium subscription may remove ads.

Data Retention and Deletion
When you delete your account from within the app, we anonymize it: we clear identifying information (such as name, email, photos, biography, location, birth year, and linked Google or Apple identifiers) and ban the associated device bindings. Certain content already shared with others, and transaction or payment records, may be retained where required for legal, accounting, or fraud-prevention purposes. You can also contact us to request access, correction, or full erasure of your data.

Your Rights
Depending on where you live (for example under the EU GDPR or Türkiye's KVKK), you may have rights to access, correct, delete, restrict, or object to the processing of your data, to data portability, and to withdraw consent. You can exercise many of these in the app or by contacting us.

Security
We protect your data using encryption in transit (HTTPS/TLS), hashed passwords, and access controls. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure.

Children's Privacy
Magmug is intended only for adults aged 18 and over. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 18. If you believe someone under 18 has provided us with data, contact us so we can delete it.

Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time and will update the date and, where appropriate, notify you in the app.
